The Neighbourhoods Project gathered information about issues surrounding rural and urban perceptions of poverty in Abbotsford. The project led to conversations with immigrant and migrant farm workers and members of Abbotsford’s Indo-Canadian community – all with surprising and useful results.

Hosting a conversation café in Abbotsford around the topic of poverty provided a great opportunity for focused discussion among citizens and provincial candidates. Organizers learned a great deal about residents’ views on poverty while also recognizing a need for more education about the electoral process.

To create conditions for reducing poverty in Abbotsford, we present low income residents with opportunities and tools to lift themselves out of their current realities instead of merely helping them to live with the reality of being poor.
