Vibrant Abbotsford funded community projects focused on poverty reduction, neighbourhood safety, social and cultural diversity, affordable recreation, and team building.
Abbotsford Connect is an annual event that provides services to people sleeping rough, staying with friends, living on the edge, or who just can’t make ends meet. The 2010 event reached over 215 guests and 27 service agencies took part.
Harm reduction is a set of practical strategies that reduce the negative consequences of drug use, incorporating a spectrum of strategies from safer use, to managed use, to abstinence. Harm reduction strategies meet drug users "where they're at," addressing conditions of use along with the use itself.
100 conversations were undertaken with randomly selected Abbotsfordians (at the bus loop, and a local shopping centre) to gather input on what poverty means to people, what they feel causes it, and what might be done to improve the situation. The results assist in the direction of our efforts towards community education.
Explore common myths about the standard of living in Abbotsford and shed some light on the poverty in our midst. This rich booklet highlights poverty myths as they relate to Canada in general and Abbotsford in particular.
The Neighbourhoods Project gathered information about issues surrounding rural and urban perceptions of poverty in Abbotsford. The project led to conversations with immigrant and migrant farm workers and members of Abbotsford’s Indo-Canadian community – all with surprising and useful results.
